ELE338, Electronics I
This is the first course of our 2-course junior sequence in Electronics.
You have just learned the basics of (passive --> RLC) circuit analysis
in your sophomore year (ELE212/215). Electronics I builds up on this and
teaches you how to deal with active circuit elements such as transistors
and operational amplifiers.
Device modeling is one of the most essential new tools introduced in this
course. In fact, the concept of modeling permeates the entire engineering
field and will be with you for the entire length of your professional career.
Electronics I provides an ideal training ground to practice the
application of this new tool.
You will learn how comparatively simple devcie models enable us to analyze
circuits comprising (non-linear) elements such as diodes or transistors with
ease.
In addition to analyzing circuits using "Pen & Paper", you will be
introduced to computer aided techniques. "PSpice" is a program that will
allow you to simulate the behavior of your (lab) circuits under various
operating conditions, i.e., under different input stimuly or environmental
conditions (e.g. heat). The analsis can be carried out in the time domain
(--> transient analysis) as well as the frequency domain (--> AC analysis).
