* Parking Map for BARC.
Look at the gaudy yellow box at the top of the map for specific BARC info. (NOTE: currently there is a bug somewhere that may keep the yellow box, etc.,
from printing. We're looking into it.)
* Permit: No longer available (2/10/2006). [Print, trim, put on dashboard. NOTE: You do NOT have to stop at the Info. Center.]
Getting there by car:
Via car, you're probably better off starting with
MapQuest or the equivalent to
get the basic directions. The University Club has a street
address (see above), so you should be able to
use MapQuest to get all the way there. Just in case, for
some landmarks not likely to be in MapQuest, and for
an easier time of it as you near URI:
From the North:
* Take Interstate Rte. 95 South, to Exit 9 (RI Rte. 4 South).
This is a LEFT-lane exit.
* Stay on Rte. 4 South past the point at which it ceases to be a
freeway (you're now about 15 minutes away from the U. Club),
through several lights, then bear right when Rte. 4 merges
into US Rte. 1 South.
* After a few miles, take a right (at a light) onto RI Rte.
138 West.
* After several more miles you will come to a populated area
(Kingston), and a light.
* At the NEXT light, turn right into the
URI campus' main entrance, onto Upper College Road (click me).
From the South:
* Take Interstate Rte. 95 North, to Exit 3A (RI Rte. 138 East).
* Stay on Rte. 138 East for about 10 miles.
* NOTE: from here on we differ from MapQuest.
* Turn left at a light into the
URI campus' main entrance, onto Upper College Road (click me).
Once through the URI main entrance:
* Go a block or two, to a four-way stop-sign intersection. There should
be two stone pedestrian-gates on either side of the road on the
far side of the intersection.
* Go straight through the intersection.
* The URI information kiosk is on the right; keep going straight.
* After a couple of blocks, you'll see the University Club on the
right side of the road; they have a sign hanging at the roadside.
* Go through the main door, and follow the signs.
* Welcome, and enjoy!
Getting there by train:
There is a local Amtrak station: "Kingston, RI". The Acela doesn't
stop there, just the older trains.
From the North:
* From Boston: leaves from South Station.
* From Providence: leaves from the Amtrak Station.
* Once at the Kingston station... (click me)
From the South:
* Most trains originate in Washington, DC or NYC's Penn Station. The
local trains stop at just about every Connecticut town and city
on the coast.
* Anyone coming from DC or NYC gets a special prize! (Remember:
"special", not "expensive" :-))
* From the station... (click me)
From the Kingston station to URI:
* Get a cab for a quick ride to the U. Club (about
10-20 minutes). If there are no cabs, go home... Actually, give Gus
Uht a call on his cell phone, and he'll get someone down there to
pick you up. My cell number is: 401-787-1313.
* In case the driver has trouble finding the place, which they
shouldn't, when you leave the station hang a right onto
Rte. 138 East and then follow the
"...by car: From the South"
directions above (click me).
Getting there by plane:
* The airport is the T.F. Green Airport (Providence, or PVD). It is
actually in West Warwick, North of URI and South of Providence.
* Once in the main part of the terminal, and past security, go
down the escalator, and look to the right and the left of the
building's main exit for various forms of
local transportation.
* We suggest you rent a car, then follow the
"...by car: From the North" directions above.
A continental breakfast will be ready for you at the U.
Club upon your arrival.
* Yes, starting at about 10 AM; the main business of the Workshop
will start just a little later.
